Britain offers 200 million pounds for Nigeria to fight against Boko Haram

Britain has offered 200 million pounds (220 million euros) over five years to Nigeria to help fight the militant group Boko Haram, the British Foreign Office said Wednesday.

The announcement comes at a time when British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson is on a tour of Africa to strengthen British political and trade ties with the continent.

“In Maiduguri, I met the victims of the Boko Haram violence, especially people who were hit by bombs or bullets,” the British minister said in a statement.

“I also saw people forced to flee their homes because of violence and poverty. The jihadi group is using an increasing number of children, mostly girls, as human bombs in this region of northeastern Nigeria
