- in International

A restaurant in Burkina Faso’s capital is under attack, with witnesses reporting heavy gunfire.

Soldiers launched an operation against the suspected jihadists in the city of Ouagadougou after gunfire broke out on Sunday evening.

A police spokesman told The Associated Press that the attack was underway at a Turkish restaurant, Aziz Istanbul.

Witnesses said three armed men arrived in a 4×4 at around 9.30pm local time and fired at people sitting outside the cafe.

At least two people, including one foreigner, have been injured in the attack, according to an AFP journalist in the country.

Islamic extremists attacked another restaurant in Ouagadougou, which is in the centre of the West African country, in January last year, killing 30 people.

There has also been an increase in militant attacks along the northern border with Mali.

Burkina Faso is landlocked and is also one of the world’s poorest nations.
