Leroy Sane is delighted Manchester City have captured the Premier League title – although he admits is would have been better in different circumstances.
Although Sane would have preferred City to capture the title themselves rather than being handed it by a defeat, he is still thrilled to have won the league in record-equalling time.
He told German news agency SID: ‘It’s an overwhelming feeling to become champions in the best league of the world that early.
‘Of course, we would have liked to do it with our own match but you don’t want to complain about the timing with such a title. We all can be very proud of our achievement.’
City have matched the Premier League record of 33 games as the earliest title win, matching Manchester United in 2001.
They could have won it a week earlier had they beaten United at the Etihad. They led 2-0 at half-time, but were pegged back and eventually beaten 3-2.
Sane, who has scored nine goals and assisted 12 more, has been nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year for his contribution to City’s title.
He said: ‘Being nominated is a nice recognition for my performance this season. David and Kevin played a strong season, too, as many of us have.’
