CANBERRA, Australia – An Australian military basic who led a secretive army operation to cease asylum seekers from coming to Australia by boat has been named the nation’s subsequent protection power chief.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull stated Monday that Lt. Gen. Angus Campbell will exchange Air Chief Marshall Mark Binskin as chief of the Australian Protection Drive in July. Binskin will retire after 4 years within the high job.
Campbell got here to public consideration because the commander of Operation Sovereign Borders, an operation a newly elected conservative authorities established in 2013 to cease 1000’s of asylum seekers from the Middle East, Africa and Asia from reaching Australian shores in rickety Indonesian fishing boats at a fee of 37 boats a month.
No asylum seeker boat has reached Australia since July 2014.
