A BRITISH holidaymaker has been arrested after an alleged drunken assault on her seven-year-old daughter at an Algarve hotel.
The youngster was taken to hospital in Faro after the incident around 10pm on Saturday night in the popular resort of Albufeira.
Police sources confirmed local reports it had happened at the Monica Isabel Beach Club Hotel.
Respected Portuguese daily Correio da Manha said staff at the hotel, which consists of three and four-star apartments overlooking the beach, called police.
A receptionist at the hotel said this afternoon she âhad no information about any incident.â
The child was due to be placed in the care of a local child welfare institution after her release from hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be serious.
A longer-term decision on the childâs future was expected to be made after the unnamed Brit appeared before a judge in a closed court hearing.
Expat local paper The Portugal News said police sources had confirmed the woman was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the assault.
The arrest was carried out by Portuguese GNR officers
