A PLANE crashed across a motorway before smashing into a bridge in front of shocked witnesses.

Three people were on board the Cessna 210 as it plunged from the sky – with authorities saying it was a miracle that no one was badly hurt.

Witnesses, watching from a nearby burger Chain, Sonic, were left shocked as the aircraft skidded across the road in front of them on Sunday.

But despite coming crashing down on a heavily residential area in east Colorado Springs, the plane luckily managed to miss any buildings.

Authorities are now investigating just what happened to cause the dramatic crash that saw 25 gallons of fuel leak from one of the plane’s wings.

Police spokesman Lt. Howard Black told the Colorado Springs Gazette that it was “very fortunate to report no serious injuries.”

One person was taking to hospital for observation.

The Federal Aviation Administration will now investigate just what caused the crash.

It comes after The Sun revealed one of the most important rules if a plane is crashing.

Passengers are supposed to put their head between their knees, with their hands over the top to protect the back of the skull.
